WELCOME TO BURNAGE RUGBY CLUB

The Varley Park site is perhaps one of Stockport’s best kept secrets. Spread across 11 acres, we are so much more than just a rugby club. We are home to multiple sports including hosting over 1000 children and adults every week, playing football, golf, footgolf, Aussie Rules and of course Rugby. But our facilities provide a host of community services too. Our club rooms and bars, outside patio and marquee, make a perfect venue for corporate and private functions from 50 people up to several hundred. From Christenings, Big Birthdays and Weddings to Funeral services, we have fed and watered hundreds of families and businesses here in Heaton Mersey since 1976.

With options for on-site and outsourced top class catering packages, a great selection of cask beers, fine wines and spirits at very competitive prices our community club aims to serve its community with best value and best quality in all that we do. Find out more from the links below.

Welcome to Burnage Rugby Club #agreatplacetobe
As I begin my first season at the Club in the role of Director of Rugby, I am immensely proud to be associated with a great Community Club.

At Burnage Rugby Club we are proud of our rugby heritage. Our core values of friendship, inclusivity and equality allows us to thrive for excellence both on and off the field. We provide a community rugby programme for all players from Mini/Jnr Rugby age groups through to three adult teams. No matter what level of rugby you aspire to play our strong culture of togetherness makes this a great club to belong too…

Dave Wrigley

DAVE WRIGLEY
CHAIRMAN

A quick look back at the last 2 seasons saw our 1st Team endure a very challenging time  but came through it gaining valuable experience at level 5. The 2nd  and 3rd Teams managed to complete  their 2022/ 2023 seasons when at times through injuries we thought this wouldn’t happen. So thanks for the effort last year guys.

I know anyone who pulls on a BRFC shirt is proud to do so and myself and all the “Old Boys” will always support you home and away, usually very vocally. Looking forward to Isle of Man away I’m sure for many.

I would like to formally welcome all new players to the club for the forthcoming season at all levels, you will find us a family club with a reputation for good hospitality, enjoy the season and the bar.

We look forward to renewing some old acquaintances, in the  Regional 2 North West league and as is the rugby law enjoying a pint at the bar with all visiting teams, after we win of course.

Finally, I need to highlight again and make no apologies for doing so,  one part of the Burnage Rugby Club which sometimes goes under the radar. I can’t name all involved but with Mike Thomas and all the Academy “helpers/coaches, “ this club is in a very good position going forward. The Academy goes from strength to strength year on year and we will reap the benefits at open age in the very near future. Many thanks Mike, can you please pass on my gratitude to all your “team” from myself and the rest of Burnage RFC. It is all done on a volunteer basis and it doesn’t go unnoticed.

Burnage RFC

SCOTT REDMOND
PRESIDENT

…, and we look forward to competitive rugby and some great pre- and post-match social gatherings. I am serving as president for first season, a role I am proud and honoured to hold, and I am looking forward to watching the exciting, fast, and hard-fought rugby, Burnage has come to be known for.

We are very much a family-oriented club, and we try and make everyone feel as though they belong, so I look forward to entertaining all clubs committee members and visiting supporters during the coming season. I trust you will all enjoy Saturday afternoons at Varley Park as much as I do.

Thank you to all our members, visitors, affiliated sports clubs, participating sports people of all ages and genders, party animals and more who enjoy our inclusive and high-quality facilities. Long may it continue!

MINI & JUNIOR RUGBY
BURNAGE ACADEMY

At Burnage Rugby Academy we welcome all boys and girls aged between 3 and 14 to join us every Sunday for training and regular fixtures (from u7 up) on our 4g pitch and extensive grass pitches.

OUR SPONSORS

A huge thanks to all of our sponsors, without whom grass roots rugby, football and golf here at Varley Park may not be possible. If you have an interest in becoming a commercial sponsor at Burnage RFC please contact us.

Steve Willock

Managing Director
Burnage RFC Limited

Welcome to Burnage RFC Limited. I add the ‘Limited’ to emphasise how important it is that grass roots rugby clubs are run like successful businesses and we work hard to set by example just what rugby clubs can achieve to provide extended services and facilities to the communities that surround them and create a sustainable independent business model that will keep us all enjoying rugby for generations ahead.

This is another milestone year for Burnage as we will begin the 2023-24 season with our now fully operational and self-funded 4G artificial surface in use for all first team and second home games. 13 years ago, we were one of the first North West clubs to take the leap of faith with artificial grass, and I know now just how important ownership of this asset is to maintain a sustainable rugby club. The renewal of the pitch to latest RFU and FA standards and upgrades to our supporter’s infrastructure, club house and player welfare areas was another multi six figure investment and part of our perpetual investment strategy on capital projects to ensure the future of rugby here at Varley Park.

In the last year we have added an extension to our members bar, adding a further 60 person event area, that is exclusive and independent from use of the main club room. This has added scope to cater for late night away match returning players to be accommodated even if a private function is in the club house. It allows us to fully support all other sports and activities such as Footgolf and junior football, simultaneously to other club functions and adds a great resource for local businesses to take advantage of first class meeting room, sales training and team building events.

Thank you to all our members, visitors, affiliated sports clubs, participating sports people of all ages and genders, party animals and more who enjoy our inclusive and high-quality facilities. Long may it continue!

March 18th, 2024|

"We have a projection screen, we have TVs, and we have great PA systems in both the corporate suite and the main room. So there's nothing that the hotel can offer that we can't offer and do very, very well and quite often at a fraction of the price."

Interview with Steve Wilock: Part 1 – Rugby

Steve, tell me a little about the history of the club and how you came to be part of it. “The club was formed in 1936-37, originally at Burnage Grammar School. Then Emerson gifted 3.5 acres of land in the mid-1970s and we moved to Varley Park, which is where we have been ever since".
