Established in 1937 Rugby Union at Burnage has flourished under the management of generations of dedicated volunteers who have worked tirelessly to create a leading and sustainable grass roots amateur rugby club in the North West.
From the pioneering founders like Bill Varley after whom our Varley Park, Heaton Mersey ground was named in 1976, through to our current committee and an army of ‘dedicated doers’ we run a successful club that puts its rugby first, whilst welcoming a whole host of other sports, community, education, social and commercial groups who use this facility on a daily basis, 365 days a year.
We have invested in our club in honour of the generations that have gone before us and we hope for the many generations that will follow. With multiple commercial activities centred around our Sports fields, Golf Course, floodlit 5-a side and 3G Artificial pitches and the Club House and Bar and catering facilities we run a sustainable business model that allows us to invest in rugby and play at an excellent standard in amateur sport.
With our 1st Team XV playing at Level 6 and a Strong Second XV and Social Third XV we can cater for all levels of rugby players. So, whether you are a young player looking to improve your game and benefit from our professional coaching and physiotherapy set up, or a social player looking to return to rugby to enjoy all the on and off pitch pleasures of a club community you will be made most welcome at Burnage RFC.
